In the run up to Hell In A Cell, Brian Kendrick did his best to gain sympathy from T.J Perkins and everyone else watching. Opening his heart to the reigning WWE Cruiserweight Champion, Kendrick said that he was aware this would be his last major run in the promotion. Therefore, he had to win the title sooner rather than later.

Not really buying what Kendrick was selling, Perkins repeatedly told Brian that he'd have to earn the title inside the ring. Come the pay-per-view, the crafty veteran decided to play possum and fake a knee injury. This opened the door to plant a head butt on T.J, lock him in the Captain's Hook submission hold and bag the WWE Cruiserweight Title.

Successfully suckering his younger peer in, Brian Kendrick won't be able to look past T.J Perkins just yet. A defeated champion is due an immediate rematch in WWE's world, meaning that there's still a burning issue between these former best friends.

It was a mild shock to see the Cruiserweight belt change hands so quickly, the division has only been launched properly for just over a month.
