WWE Invasion 2001: 5 Awesome Things And 5 That Sucked

3. The Video Package Hyping The Main Event Was Amazing

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VSZCwJzH81s The story leading up to the ten man tag match that main evented Invasion was built around the WWE Champion Steve Austin and where his allegiance was. At the time, Austin was the heel WWE Champion that didn't care about anybody else. He was a jerk to everybody. With WCW & ECW talents invading the company, Vince McMahon pleaded to Austin that the "old Stone Cold" come back to kick their ass. He told Steve that they needed him on their side so that they could win this war. There were also pep talks from both parties that set up this match. It was great hearing from people like The Undertaker talking about they had to fight together. They even brought in the legendary Freddie Blassie to give them a speech. A lot of people complain about how the Invasion went in general, but if you look at things heading into this show it was booked really well. They pushed the right buttons in telling the story the right way with Austin looking he wasn't going to help. We didn't know what Austin was going to do, but he ended up coming to WWE's aid when they needed him most. It was the last Raw before the Invasion PPV, so it set things up the right way.
