WWE Invasion 2001: 5 Awesome Things And 5 That Sucked
1. The Main Event Had A Huge Angle That Left Us Wanting More
The main event saw five WCW/ECW guys take on five WWE guys. The big story going into the match was that Steve Austin was back to being a WWE guy even though he had been a heel for the previous four months. Fans were ready to cheer for Austin again. When he saved the WWE guys from an attack on Raw the crowd went crazy and it appeared as though he was back to being a hero again. Kurt Angle was a machine in this match. The crowd absolutely loved him as he represented WWE. Once he made the big comeback for his team it was obvious he would be involved in the finish somehow. Then there was the ref bump, which set it up perfectly. When Angle had Booker T tapping out in the middle of the ring with no ref in sight the crowd was going crazy. They thought that was it. Instead, Steve Austin went into the ring, hit the Stunner on Angle, put Booker on top and that gave the victory to the Alliance much to the shock of everybody supporting WWE. It was the right move for the Alliance side to win the match. They needed it to give them momentum in the story. If they lost the first big match then they never would have been able to recover. Seeing the top WWE guy join them really pissed off the fans. It was a smart finish to the PPV. They messed up the next four months, but at this point in the story they were on the right path.
