It would be fair to say Unforgiven 2001 was promoted as a one match event, and despite this sounding like it could have been a bad thing, the angle between Stone Cold and Kurt Angle was so hot coming off of their incredible match at SummerSlam that you just had to tune in to see what would happen.

The rest of the PPV was a mixed bag. Looking at the card you can see where the problems may have arisen. The team of KroniK were just that and The Brothers of Destruction carried on their run of poor PPV performances during this time. Perry Saturn and Raven wrestled in a match that no one wanted to see and even Edge and Christian delivered a disappointing match compared to their usual high standards.

One inevitable bright spot on the show was the showdown between Chris Jericho and Rob Van Dam. Here they gave us an electric match for the Hardcore Championship bolstering this otherwise lackluster PPV.

The Rock, who could usually be relied on for a solid match, was part of an overbooked mess against Booker T and Shane McMahon that only acted to bury Booker further down the card. Kurt Angle and Stone Cold ended the show on a high by continuing their series of amazing matches, and fans were treated to a feel good moment with the American Hero picking up the win.
