Intrigue and curiosity helped propel the Invasion PPV to the heights of Wrestlemania in terms of buy-rates alone. With well over 700,000 homes purchasing the show, anticipation was at an all-time high and fans were desperate to be part of the next seismic shift in the world of wrestling.

The show itself, much like Survivor Series months later, had a Ryder Cup style format with each side electing a representative for every match. We were treated to some great contests whilst some only gave a harrowing insight into the lack of roster depth in what was supposed to be a high stake war.

The show is best remembered for a thrilling Hardcore Championship match with Rob Van Dam taking on Jeff Hardy and “The Inaugural Brawl” which was essentially a Survivor Series Elimination match between the two sides. Both matches deservedly received rave reviews and, looking back, it is perplexing to wonder why Booker T was the only member of Team Alliance to continue receiving a significant push.

A once in a lifetime event that mirrored the honeymoon period of any relationship. Everything was new and exciting at the beginning and it would only be later when cracks began to show that fans really soured on the angle.

High Point: 5 on 5 Elimination Main Event.
