9. This Could Be Huge For Wrestlemania 30
As an anniversary show, Wrestlemania 30 needs a stand out main event. If WWE was to promote Orton and Cena to unify the world titles as the last match on the card, it would be a fitting historical point. By starting the build for the match at the conclusion of Survivor Series, WWE has paved the way for a long and winding road to Wrestlemania in which the meaningfulness and heat of the feud can fully hit fever pitch. Conversely, it could also be seen that starting the angle at Survivor Series indicates that the match will take place sooner than Mania - we will look at that in point 8. For now let's focus on the idea that the Champion vs Champion concept is the big sell for next year's Wrestlemania, and what happened on Survivor Series was just the planting of the seed. Wrestlemania as the venue for the match makes sense on several levels. It gives the ultimate stage to the historical unification, which gives the new undisputed champion the very best start to a new reign as the main focus of the company. WWE would perhaps lose out on some of the historical importance if they were to do the change at a B level PPV with only four weeks build. Mania is where the big stuff happens, and it doesn't get much bigger than Orton vs Cena fighting for all the gold. In recent years, WWE has displayed a trend of promoting its Wresltemania angle long in advance. Have a look at Rock and Cena as the main event, it was laid out and teased months before the match took place. Another significant championship match in the last year was Punk vs Rock. Again, that was set up and teased long in advance. Orton and Cena's angle from Survivor Series could be the continuation of this promotional strategy, and this could well be our main event for Wrestlemania 30. Long term build is a technique that works - Wrestlemania pay per view buys have been excellent in the last few years.
