WWE Money In The Bank 2016: 5 Near-Guarantees & 5 Possible Surprises
3. Possible Surprise: AJ Styles Proves Himself To The Standard-Bearer
As the old saying goes, "To be the man, you gotta beat the man". John Cena is not the "champ", but he is most certainly WWE's number one. With all Cena has accomplished in his incredible career, he doesn't need to win every match to remain the top dog.
What WWE has in its hands is a potential megastar in AJ Styles. His achievements elsewhere are well documented, and we know just how sensational of an in-ring performer he is, but Styles is yet to claim the same high profile victories he has in other promotions. Styles is presently missing WWE legitimacy.
The Phenomenal One's previous shortcoming against Chris Jericho and Roman Reigns would be quickly forgotten if he were to pin John Cena in Cena's return match no less. Sure Cena's fans may be disappointed, but just like when Kevin Owens defeated the former United States Champion to solidify himself, there wouldn't be any harm in Cena getting one or two back on Styles in the future.
But for now, let's start with AJ Styles proving he is every bit as great as he says he is by beating John Cena at his own game: one-on-one, no outside interference. Then have The Club come beat the snot out of him for good measure.
