6. Charlotte Flair Vs. Becky Lynch - SmackDown Women’s Championship Match

A nothing match that acted as mere prelude to the resulting angle.

Charlotte Flair is great, even if this match did not require her greatness to tell its story. She looked eminently punchable before the opening bell, relishing the advantage against her weakened opponent, itself a neat method of intensifying her perception as the office favourite. Her update on the Flair Flop, as a super-athletic means of gaining the advantage, was a superb bit of work too—a tribute and an evolution that pitches her as a worthy successor to a hugely daunting lineage. Heated and physical but overfamiliar and truncated, it wasn’t the manifest anti-climax or diminished return most feared throughout the build.

Unhelpfully, since their programme is set to resume and she doesn’t have much else, WWE buried the interfering Lacey’s finish by booking Lynch to no-sell it for a bit of unnecessary, tacked-on drama.

Star Rating: **1/2
