WWE Money In The Bank 2021: Every Match Ranked From Worst To Best
WWE ushers in the post-ThunderDome era with a rock solid PPV.
Money in the Bank is kinda like pizza - it's tough to totally screw it up, and even when it's not great, it's usually still pretty damn fun.
WWE knows how to put together an entertaining ladder match, and that they certainly delivered with the two marquee matches during their first post-ThunderDome event.
Though not every match was a home run, there wasn't a single dud among the card, and the three most anticipated matches all delivered above and sometimes beyond expectations.
This year's Money in the Bank served up the high-wire athleticism fans expect, but its real triumph was in setting the stage decisively for next month's SummerSlam event, teeing things up without just lazily relying on shenanigans finishes to guarantee seemingly inevitable rematches.
And of course, it goes without saying that the presence of a live crowd gave even the softer matches on the card a more electric and dynamic atmosphere.
Was it a Money in the Bank event for the ages? Not quite, but its more mild undercard was boosted considerably by the strong final trio of matches...
7. Raw Tag Team Titles: AJ Styles & Omos (c) Vs. The Viking Raiders
Result: AJ and Omos retain the straps after Omos puts Erik away with a Chokebomb (12:55).
Rating: Though it's easy to appreciate anyone decrying AJ Styles being "stuck" in a program like this when he could be putting on singles bangers every month, it was still a solid tag bout as long as you can forgive Omos' obvious greenness in the ring.
But he's certainly continuing to improve and was booked well, to not take up the brunt of the match's ring time but be deployed as a force of nature when needed.
If he can work on his selling and general ring awareness, he might become something more than just another big man.
AJ was of course as reliably excellent as ever, and the match layout ensured Erik and Ivar looked mighty even in defeat. 6/10
