WWE Money In The Bank Winners: Where Are They Now?
19. CM Punk (WrestleMania XXIV & XXV, 2008/09)
Cash In: Successful (twice!).
Becoming the first ever star to win back-to-back Money in the Bank ladder matches, CM Punk won the World Heavyweight Championship on two occasions after cashing-in on vulnerable champions - Edge on Raw in 2008 and Jeff Hardy at Extreme Rules in 2009.
Yet, both of Punk's reigns as World Champion didn't do much for his WWE career. It was only when the 'Voice of the Voiceless' took to the stage in 2011 and cut his infamous 'Pipebomb' promo that people really started to sit up and take notice. Quickly becoming the hottest star in wrestling Punk beat John Cena at MITB 2011 and wandered out of the company with the WWE Title. He would then return a few weeks later and endure a turbulent Summer of Punk, before embarking on one of the longest WWE Championship reigns of the modern era (434 days).
Punk eventually left the company in 2014, later confessing that he was "sick and hurt, and sick and tired, and burnt out."
After Punk claimed that Doctor Chris Amann wrongly diagnosed a lump in his back which could have eventually killed him, Amann filed a defamation lawsuit against the former WWE Champion. Yet, when the case went to trial in 2018, the jury ruled in favour of Punk.
He eventually re-appeared on WWE programming (under FOX contract) in 2019 as a pundit on WWE Backstage.
