WWE Newcastle Live Review – 10 Interesting Observations You Need To Know
9. Dean Ambrose Needs Help
Dean Ambrose is a talented in-ring worker and a great character. However, at WWE Newcastle, he was used as a curtain jerker. His job was simply to get the crowd off to a hot start, and he did a fairly decent job of that. His victory over Luke Harper with Dirty Deeds was enjoyable. But this isn't the same Ambrose who wowed the UK crowds on WWE's last circuit of the UK in November. He had momentum last autumn, but the creative department then overlooked him as they focused on other stars around Mania season. As a result, Ambrose didn't feel like the big star he did six months ago. When you look where Seth Rollins is now and where Roman Reign is, you have to say that Ambrose has worryingly lacked progression. His performance at Newcastle created some doubt over his future main event potential. He overdid the facial expressions and was content to go through his typical spots. He's also worryingly average in appearance. He lacks muscular definition compared to all the other main event guys who were ripped. Looks matter and his build with that black vest on just makes him look regular, like the normal kind of guy you'd see in a gym. WWE and Ambrose need to address what he can do to take his act to the next level. The last six months have seen stagnation and compared to the last UK house show tour he has gone backwards. That said, he was still very popular with the kids in attendance, but his merchandise was nowhere near as prevalent as six months ago when his gear was all over the UK shows.
