WWE Newcastle Live Review - 9 Interesting Observations

7. Cena And Orton Are Still Big For The Kids (Who Made Up The Majority)

The internet wrestling community may feel like they know best and feel like they should represent WWE's target audience... but if Newcastle was anything to go off, the kids are more key than ever, and they love John Cena and Randy Orton. Particularly in the expensive seats there were swathes of kids taking up the blocks with their parents. They stood out easily because most of them were kitted out in the fluorescent green of John Cena t-shirts. That's why WWE won't turn the star heel, because where it matters, he is still the top drawing star. Cena wasn't even on this show and yet his merchandise was still clearly the most purchased items. Randy Orton was another guy who seemed to be over with the young ones. They all did the arm stretched pose with him when he mounted the turnbuckle in his entrance. He may be boring to us older fans, but to the kids he is obviously still perceived as a star. As for Bryan, there wasn't many people wearing his merchandise at all. The 'YES' chant got going big on a few occasions, but that doesn't necessarily mean Bryan is super popular with the kids, it just means the chant is over, a bit like 'WHAT' was across the roster a decade ago. Based on what the company witnessed last night, they're right to continue booking Orton and Cena at the top of their cards.
