WWE No Mercy 2017: 10 Things WWE Got Right

5. The Shield Retaining Their Tag Titles

As good as Sheamus and Cesaro are, it would've been a mistake to re-crown them as Raw Tag-Team Champions so soon after dropping the titles to Ambrose and Rollins at SummerSlam. Sheamus and Cesaro are at the point now where the belts don't define their usefulness as a team. A win would also have destroyed this mini-Shield reunion.

Ambrose and Rollins needed to retain if they were going to continue this march towards a full-on Shield comeback. That's surely the long-term plan. Even if there are going to be bumps along the way, the fact they're holding titles conjures up images of Rollins and Roman Reigns as tag champs and Ambrose holding the US Title in 2013.

Any similarities to The Shield's prior run WWE's creative team can throw in should be encouraged at the moment. Ambrose and Rollins didn't dominate at No Mercy, but they did find a way to win. That was a hallmark of The Shield first time around, and it's a large part of the narrative in 2017 too.
