WWE No Mercy 2017: 10 Things WWE Got Right

3. Epic Kickouts During Cena Vs. Reigns

A match like John Cena vs. Roman Reigns was always considered one we'd see at WrestleMania, not on a 'B' level pay-per-view in late-September. Fans may boo both men for largely the same reasons (they've been pushed down fan throats relentlessly), but even the most jaded WWE fan realises that both Cena and Reigns are huge stars.

They're also capable of putting on brilliant matches stuffed with close calls. This fell quite short of the 5-star treatment, and yet those epic near fall moments were exactly what Cena vs. Reigns needed. The 'can you top this?' nature of the match was ideal. Just look at the way fans, some of whom had been giving the match a big thumbs down before the bell, were drawn into the action.

Booking Cena and Reigns to survive some match-ending bumps was a better strategy than a straight up brawl with no rules would have been. There's time to rekindle this rivalry in a stipulation match later on if WWE feel like it, but for now the straightforward singles match approach was satisfying enough.
