WWE No Mercy 2017: 10 Things WWE Got Right
2. Keeping Braun Vs. Brock Short And Sweet
It says a lot for Braun Strowman that WWE's creative team decided his match against Brock Lesnar should go on last at No Mercy. That wasn't the only thing they got right on Sunday either, because keeping the 'Monster vs. Monster' showdown relatively brief was also smart. This didn't need to go 30 minutes.
From bell-to-bell, Strowman's sprint with Lesnar lasted just nine minutes. This made it the shortest bout on the main card by 40 seconds (the Fatal-5-Way for the Raw Women's Title went 9:40), but there's no reason to see that as a negative. This was old-fashioned WWE fare, and even had a whiff of WCW about it; marquee names in a short-ish match that headlines the show was once a WCW trademark.
Fans will bemoan the sudden finish and the fact Strowman surrendered meekly compared to his work in recent months, but the match was as long/short as it needed to be. Again, much like Reigns vs. Cena, this is now one WWE can revisit when it suits them.
