WWE No Mercy 2017 Review

The reforged Shield's troubles with the European Headbangers have been a source of reliable entertainment of late, even with the encroaching sense of déjà vu. Things followed a similar pattern at No Mercy, though Cesaro did need to make clear precisely all he wants for Christmas before it got going. There's no circumstance where someone smashing their front teeth out on a metal pole is a good thing, but it's hard to argue that the gory sight of the Swiss' bloodied face didn't add to the drama.

It's a shame we can't see it more often, performed safely; being repeatedly elbowed, nutted in the forehead, and chinned on a post are not the ideal ways to draw colour. Karma (not Charles Wright) seemed to have bitten Shesaro on the bottom here; it was just a few months back that a bumbling Sheamus booted Matt Hardy's tooth out of his mouth. It's an unfair form of restorative justice, but a team must share pain as well as glory.

Bayley's red boots made her look like Dorothy, but no amount of heel clicking will see her escape the personal torment of the main roster. What she did get, was a heel kicking, as even in a match featuring Emma, she was the one to take the pinfall. Unlike most women's multiperson matches of late, this one exceeded expectations. When she's not rolling her eyes contemptuously and going arse-over-tit in spots that makes you squeak, Nia Jax is an asset. This doesn't mean she should beat Asuka. She will.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
