WWE NXT 8 Ups And 1 Down (Jun 15)

Down...

1. Cole Vs O'Reilly Goes Backwards

Clearly taking a page out of Edge and Randy Orton's 2020 playbook, the baffling decision to throw Adam Cole and Kyle O'Reilly into a one-on-one singles match at July 6's Great American Bash was made official by William Regal last night.

Now, there's no questioning the fact that these two will probably put on a thrilling encounter when all is said and done. But, the fact we've already seen them take each other to the limit in an unsanctioned match just a few months back MASSIVELY dilutes whatever tension we're expected to feel coming into this apparent blow-off.

Luckily, the sight of Samoa Joe not taking either man's sh*t was enough to save this trite backstage brawl segment from feeling like a completely pointless exercise. But the fact NXT just randomly dropped this supposed blood feud for months, threw the pair into a main event five-way for the top title, and then decided to suddenly remember they can't be in the same room together feels like merely the latest example of NXT making it up as they go along each week.
