NXT's Women's Tag Team division has had its fair share of ups and downs over the last few months... as you'll likely know if you've been reading this article each week. The key criticism your writer has had of those booking the talented performers housed within it is that more time has been spent focusing on soap opera nonsense than the actual in-ring competition and need to be the top team.

Well, you'll be pleased to hear that someone was listening, or at least feels the same way, as this week saw Dakota Kai and Raquel Gonzalez going to war with Kacy Catanzaro and Kayden Carter in a match which felt every bit like an NXT Women's Tag Team Championship eliminator.

Everything from the KC's finely tuned tag team offence, boasting ridiculous assisted moonsaults and sickening dual kicking assaults, to Kai and Gonzalez's ongoing simmering-yet-subtle tension made for a compelling watch from start to finish. Couple that with the vital fact that Kai was out for the count on the back of an insane 450/neckbreaker splash from Kayden and Kacy before the NXT Women's Champion intervened and you have yourself a contender for the best match this division has currently played host to.

Kai and Gonzalez may have been able to secure a gruelling victory in the end (mostly thanks to the latter), but with Ember Moon and Shotzi Blackheart clearly not finished with the pair, will the twosome be able to solely focus on regaining their tag belts from The Way going forward? Or will Raquel have to put Shotzi in her place before trying to occupy her other shoulder with gold?

All in all, a strong night for a division that desperately needed one.
