WWE NXT Live Philadelphia: 11 Interesting Observations
8. Enzo Amore And Colin "Big Cass" Cassady Are Wrestling's Greatest Opening Act
There is this belief that being the opening match act in WWE is somehow an insult, that anyone stuck in that position "deserves better" than to be jerkin the proverbial curtain. What fans adopting that line of thinking do not understand is that the opening match on any card is one of the most important of the night. It sets the tone and energizes the crowd for the festivities that proceed it. No one excels in that role better than Enzo Amore and Big Cass. Thursday night, they exploded through the curtain, and the fans erupted into one of the biggest ovations of the night. The roar of the crowd as Enzo ran around ringside and Big Cass stomped toward the ring was as electrifying as the time The Rock kicked off an episode of SmackDown I attended back in 2013. From their pre-match promo to their comedic timing between the ropes and the chemistry they have developed as a tag team, they are as polished of performers as one could possibly hope for. And more importantly, they ignite a crowd in ways some of the top stars already on WWE's main roster could only dream of. Then, to top things off, they engaged in a chicken fight with The Vaudevillains. Add in an impromptu boxing match between "Sugar Ray" Amore and Aiden English and you have a wildly entertaining opener. Like The Godfather during the Attitude Era, the team is the personification of a crowd pleaser and one that will earn the love of every crowd the perform in front of, even if they have to do it from the opening match spot on the card every night for the rest of their careers.
