WWE NXT Live Philadelphia: 11 Interesting Observations
7. Women's Wrestling Still Struggles With A Portion Of The Audience
"I wanna sniff your flower!" one obnoxiously drunk fan screamed at the ring as Peyton Royce battled Carmella, probably thinking that in some universe, he was clever. Then there were the two douchebags just beyond my left shoulder acting like two adolescent teenagers during an exchange of pinfalls between Bayley and Alexa Bliss, oo'ing and aw'ing at the various angles of the two young women that presented themselves. And finally, the "slut" chants and one eager fan's "show your t**s" demand during Eva Marie's match against Asuka were incredibly inappropriate. As far as women's wrestling has come thanks to NXT and Triple H's belief in the female competitors he sends to the ring, there are still those who are unwilling to accept the wrestlers as legitimate in-ring workers. They still treat those women like objects rather than respected athletes, proving that things may have changed but there is still a section of fans hellbent on keeping them the same.
Erik Beaston is a freelance pro wrestling writer who likes long walks in the park, dandelions and has not quite figured out that this introduction is not for Match.com. He resides in Parts Unknown, where he hosts weekly cookouts with Kane, The Ultimate Warrior, Papa Shango and The Boogeyman. Be jealous.
