WWE Paul Heyman DVD Review: 13 Things You Should Know

1. The Verdict

This is an essential DVD to own if you're a wrestling fan. It's one of the most insightful backstage exposes WWE has ever produced. There's various scenes shot backstage which illustrate Heyman and the locker room in the process of producing the show. The archive footage is similarly revelatory, including Heyman's meticulous work producing promos backstage in ECW. One criticism of the documentary could be the lack of Vince McMahon, the most important person Paul Heyman ever worked with. Some might also blame the interviewees for treading carefully around delicate subjects. Stephanie and Heyman never really properly shoot, instead veiling their criticisms of each other. That's understandable though, it's a WWE production, internal politics are of course going to be a consideration. There might also be some debate on how insightful the content actually is - the ECW ground has been well covered before. In the main though, this is just brilliant. We get to see behind the curtain in some fascinating recent footage. Then there's the archive material, never before seen footage of Heyman at work backstage in ECW, WCW and WWF. Is the documentary as good as 2004's Rise and Fall of ECW or 2012's Best In The World? That will be up to you the individual viewer, but it's certainly equal. The founder of WhatCulture and site editor Matt Holmes has already watched the DVD three times and described it as "the best documentary WWE has ever produced." That's a worthy endorsement and the sentiments are sure to be echoed the world over when the DVD goes on general sale this August. 'Ladies and Gentlemen, My Name Is Paul Heyman' is yet another achievement for the successful genius that is Paul Heyman.
