WWE Payback 2016: 10 Things You Might Have Missed
6. Extreme Rules Fatal Four Way
After defeating Sami Zayn, Kevin Owens stayed out to do commentary for the Intercontinental Title match between The Miz and Cesaro. Owens was great on commentary, putting down Michael Cole and Byron Saxton, bragging about his win over Zayn, and vowing to win the IC championship back.
During the bout, Sami Zayn made a surprise return, attacking Owens and brawling with him around the ringside area. In the ring, Cesaro put Miz in a crossface, but Owens and Zayn fought onto the apron, distracting the referee. Even though Miz tapped, it went unseen, and the Intercontinental Champion was soon able to roll Cesaro up for three.
After the match, all four men brawled, suggesting that there's a four-way match coming up with the title on the line, most likely at the next Pay-Per-View, Extreme Rules. Still, beating Cesaro felt unnecessary - if WWE was that committed to keeping the title on The Miz for another few weeks and making Owens and Zayn part of the story, they could have just had the former friends fight into the ring for the disqualification.
