WWE Payback 2016: 10 Things You Might Have Missed

5. The Global Leader In Sports Entertainment

For many years, WWE has kept a Spanish language broadcasting team at ringside, delivering commentary for Pay-Per-Views and television shows. As of late, the company has started keeping a German team ringside for Pay-Per-Views, as well.

At Payback, there were no less than six announce teams calling the show in different languages. Of course, Michael Cole, JBL, and Byron Saxton were doing the English commentary, and the Spanish and German teams were ringside. Later in the show, Cole introduced the Portuguese, Russian, and Japanese broadcast teams, who were seated a little further away from the ring.

Undoubtedly, the teams are representative of the emphasis the company has put on growing the WWE Network worldwide. TV contracts are important, but these days, nothing influences WWE's bottom line like the number of network subscribers they have, no matter where they live. By catering to audiences in important markets like Russia, Japan, and Brazil, WWE is showing a commitment to taking over the world... in a wrestling sense, at least.

Plus, one of the Japanese commentators was none other than Smackdown's former number one announcer, Funaki, so that was cool.
