WWE Payback Review: Analyzing 5 Biggest Talking Points

1. Five-Star Return

Strangely enough, the biggest talking point from the Payback PPV was from a wrestler that wasn't even in attendance at the event. Completely out of nowhere, following the Dean Ambrose US Title defense against Kane, a promo began to play with the upcoming return of a superstar its illustration. And it's a very important return. You could say that when this guy returns, he is going to be the Whole Damn Show. Out of the blue, Rob Van Dam will be returning to WWE at the Money in the Bank PPV, following his departure from TNA after losing his X-Division Championship to Kenny King back in February. The crowd were obviously raucous at this announcement, and the choice of Chicago to promote his return made sure that everybody knows that his return is a really big deal. Nethertheless, this is quite a shocking move by WWE, but very welcome. This is because despite his advancing years and therefore the loss of some speed and agility, RVD is a huge name in professional wrestling, still with one last big run in the tank, and most importantly a consistently popular babyface in a time when the company is overrun by heels. The only question is how this brilliant signing will play into the future of WWE. Will Rob Van Dam's return at Money in the Bank signal a victory in one of the ladder matches and a future title opportunity? Or will he be utilised in the same way as Christian, as a means to gradually put over young superstars for the future? And is there going to be any gold in his near future, be it a second World Championship or adding to his current collection of six Intercontinental titles? Only time will tell, but I for one am very much looking forward to matches between "Mr. Monday Night" and former foes John Cena, Chris Jericho and Randy Orton, new main eventers like CM Punk and Daniel Bryan, and some of the young talent in the business like Curtis Axel and the Shield. Despite all the great action Payback provided, the lasting image of the event in the eyes of many who watched it will be the upcoming return of the Five-Star Frogsplash.
