WWE Pitching New UK Show To ITV?
A British 'King Of The Ring' revival may be in WWE's future.
WWE's long-speculated UK television show may finally be on the horizon, but not in the form you'd expect.
According to PWInsider, WWE still plan on making the series a reality, but not as a Network-exclusive, as has been reported throughout the year. Instead, WWE are pitching the idea of a UK-focused show to various TV networks throughout the country.
It'd feature an entirely British cast, and bizarrely, WWE plan on calling it 'King Of The Ring.' This is a clear repurposing of the promotion's most famous tournament, which was cancelled as an annual competition in 2002, continuing intermittently thereafter, and last running in 2015.
The write-up claims that ITV are among the stations pitched by WWE. This is particularly interesting, as WWE have tried to purchase the network's World Of Sport library several times over the years. ITV themselves decided to bring the iconic British wrestling show back as a two-hour special on New Years Ever 2016, but are yet to follow up on their own ambitions of a regular weekly show.
It's an ironic situation, as ITV's WoS revival was a key motivator in WWE's decision to fast-track their own UK expansion in January. WWE's last British show was broadcast in May, but news has gone quiet since then.
