Since his recent return Rob Van Dam has been participating in the number one contenders tournament for the chance to challenge for the Intercontinental Championship at Extreme Rules. So far he has seen off opposition from Alberto Del Rio and Cesaro. Despite coming up short in the final against Bad News Barrett he did so in a good match that saw him get distracted by not one but two men in his Extreme Rules opponents Cesaro and Jack Swagger. Van Dam exacted revenge on SmackDown by defeating the Real American in extremely fast fashion. Although afterwards he found himself the victim of a post-match attack from the King Of Swing.
