1. WWE Championship (3rd WWE, 3rd Overall) September 17, 2006 - October 2, 2007
John Cena became the first person in more than 18 years to hold the championship for longer than a year, had the longest reign of the first decade of the 21st century and the longest in nearly 20 years with this reign defeating Edge in his hometown of Toronto in his signature TLC Match to claim the championship. For 380 days as WWE kingpin, Cena was able to withstand the onslaught from challengers such as Sabu, and was part of the Champion Of Champions Match at Cyber Sunday against Big Show and King Booker, also during the reign he would square off against the usual suspects, Edge, Randy Orton and would have a feud with The Great Khali in the late spring. Mick Foley, would also join that list in the summer. During the late winter and early spring, Cena would have some of the best rivalries and matches of his career, starting with a series of matches with Umaga in January, including a highly underrated Last Man Standing Match at the Royal Rumble and including classic matches with Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania 23 and in an Iron Man Match in London. This was John Cena at the top of his in-ring prowess. The more impressive thing to consider is that after nearly 13 months, the longest reign since some guy named Hulk Hogan, it had shown no signs of being stopped either. Until a match with Mr. Kennedy on the October 1 edition of Raw in which Cena tore his pectoral in the middle of the match. Mr. McMahon would strip him of the title the next day on ECW on SyFy and award it to Randy Orton the following Sunday at No Mercy. There is really no telling how much longer Cena would have held the championship had it not been for the injury as Cena picked up where he left off almost immediately upon starting his comeback after coming at the 2008 Royal Rumble. Cena has long been a lightning rod for debate amongst wrestling fans and while a comparison to Flair, truly isn't fair as the two are products of different eras, approaches to wrestling and sports entertainment, and even different fans. Through it all, Cena has been unwavering as a Superstar as any out there and has even brought legitimacy to the championship with his almost relentless pursuit and singular focus on it since the start of his career.
