WWE: Ranking The Previous 12 Battle Royals In Wrestlemania History

2. WrestleMania X-7 - Gimmick Battle Royal

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=INFC7xG77mI PPV: The Iron Sheik won the gimmick battle royal at 3:07 by last eliminating Hillbilly Jim; other participants included: the Bushwhackers, Duke Drose, Earthquake, the Goon, Doink the Clown, Kamala, Kimchee (Steve Lombardi), Repo Man, Jim Cornette, Nikolai Volkoff, Michael Hayes, One Man Gang, the Gobbeldy Gooker (Hector Guerrero), Tugboat, Brother Love, and Sgt. Slaughter. Why isn't it ranked higher: It was a big joke, one started by wrestling funny man Al Snow. In fact, many within the company thought the entire thing might just be one big April Fools' Joke, and apparently some were not 100% certain it was happening until the likes of Kamala and the Bushwackers made their way to Houston. It was silly, it was fun, the commentators were legends "Mean" Gene Okerlund and Bobby "The Brain" Heenan, and it was purely on the card for nostalgic reasons; in other words, it was a WrestleMania moment- that doesn't involve a championship, ladder, or flaming table- is supposed to be. Interesting Fact(s): At one time Corp. Kirchner, Gillberg, and Akeem the African Dream were all advertised for this match. It is not entirely known why Kirchner was pulled from the match (reasons ranging from "he wasn't needed with Sgt. Slaughter already in the match" to "other wrestlers did not trust him after issues in Japan" have spread like wrestling rumors online tend to spread.) Gillberg was pulled because WWE- having just purchased WCW- did not want "GOLDBERG" chants filling the Superdome. And George Gray- the man who had played Akeem- had lost so much weight from his days portraying The African Dream the costume no longer fit, and he reverted back to his other well-known gimmick, that of the One Man Gang.
