WWE: Ranking Randy Savage's 8 Matches At WrestleMania

5. WrestleMania 4 vs. Ted Dibiase (and others)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NDNJzQy5nVw The main event of WrestleMania 4 is the only one of the first 9 WrestleManias that didn't feature Hulk Hogan in a match. It was time for Randy Savage to be "the guy" as a babyface that the fans loved. Earlier in the night, Savage won three matches in the WWE Title tournament. He beat Butch Reed clean in 4 minutes, then he beat Greg Valentine in 6 minutes and then in the semifinals he beat the One Man Gang via disqualification after just 4 minutes. Following those three wins, Savage was set for a WWE Title match against Ted Dibiase. What was cool about Savage vs. Dibiase is that they were able to tell a great story with Andre The Giant outside the ring. He tried to interfere for Dibiase, so Elizabeth went to the back and brought out Hulk Hogan to watch Savage's back. That only added to the drama of the match. The match was really solid as expected because Savage and Dibiase were two of the best workers in the company at the time. Most of the match saw Dibiase in control with Savage trying to make the big babyface comeback, but he was never able to really get momentum until the finish. Dibiase had Savage in the dreaded Million Dollar Dream sleeper hold. Andre tried to interfere, but the ref admonished him. Hogan went into the ring, had a steel chair in hand and hit Dibiase in the back. Savage did that spin, the twirl of the finger, went up top and he hit the Flying Elbow to win the WWE Title after 10 minutes of action. I'll never forget the ending sequence because when I watched this as a 7 year old it was like my favorite sports team winning a major title. Savage was my favorite, so all I remember is jumping around the living room at my cousin's house as we celebrated Macho Man as the World Champion. It was rare to see faces cheat to win, but they had to do it in order to counter the heels. Good storytelling and a happy ending to WrestleMania 4.
