2. WrestleMania 7 vs. The Ultimate Warrior
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fm_Piz7O2E0 "What a woman and what a man! I love it!" - Gorilla Monsoon In terms of the actual story of the match, few matches in the history of WWE can compare to this match that Savage had against Ultimate Warrior at WrestleMania 7. How many wrestling matches have made people cry because of what happened? It doesn't happen often, yet it did here. The match with Warrior was a Career vs. Career match. The loser had to retire. Savage entered as the heel Macho King with Queen Sherri at his side. Savage was in control for much of the match and at one point he hit 5 Flying Elbow drops off the top rope in a row. Warrior was able to power out. It was shocking. Warrior ended up making the big comeback, he hit his splash to the back and Savage kicked out of that. That was also shocking. Remember, this was 1991. People didn't kick out of finishers regularly like they do these days. It was a huge deal at the time. Warrior was able to summon the power of the Gods that gave him power (he's a weird dude - let's put it that way), then he gave Savage several running shoulder tackles in a row that sent Savage outside the ring. Warrior had to roll Savage back in the ring, put his foot on his chest and win the match that way after 20 minutes. It wasn't just a win. He destroyed the guy handily and in doing so they put on a classic match too. Post match was magical too. As I mentioned earlier in the week in my feature about some of the biggest ovations in wrestling history, Sherri berated Savage after the loss and then Elizabeth ran down to the ring to make the save. When Savage embraced Elizabeth, that's when the crowd went crazy and they cried at the sight of the reunion. All things considered, it's one of the greatest stories in the history of wrestling. The fact that it happened at a WrestleMania made it that much more memorable. Thankfully, Savage didn't stay retired for long. He became a top babyface again after this and a year later he won the WWE Title one more time.
