WWE: Ranking Ric Flair's 16 World Title Runs - From Worst To Best

13. WWE Championship (2nd WWE, 9th Overall) September 1, 1992 - October 12, 1992

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5LQiCJtKIRE The rivalry between Randy Savage and Ric Flair is legendary and their matches during 1992 were a big reason the two are regarded so highly and why the rivalry between them is looked at as one of the best rivalries in wrestling history. This title reign is largely glossed over in discussions of that rivalry as nothing more than a footnote as Savage didn't win the WWE Championship back from Flair and would never hold it again. But Flair interfering with Mr. Perfect in Savage's defense against The Ultimate Warrior at SummerSlam that year and winning the belt from Savage, with the help of Razor Ramon days later (weeks later on television), did re-establish a feud that had largely been on the back burner since WrestleMania 8 in April and would conclude at Survivor Series that year in a tag team match pairing Savage and Mr. Perfect against Flair and Ramon, which in turn led to the rivalry between Flair and Perfect that would lead to Flair's exit from the company in January 1993. The reign is mostly viewed as a transitional championship reign as Flair dropped the belt to Bret Hart a little more than a month later in a match that wasn't even televised, but was rather taped for a WWE Home Video (this was the only way most saw the title change until more than a decade later when it was re-released as part of a Bret Hart DVD set). While taking the championship from Savage was instrumental in reigniting their rivalry and losing it to Hart catapulted Hart into the main event for the remainder of his career, the championship reign didn't do much to further Flair beyond the fact that it reminded fans that he was "The Dirtiest Player In The Game" and that he could use those underhanded tactics to propel himself to the top whenever he wanted.
