WWE: Ranking The Rock's 10 WrestleMania Matches - From Worst To Best
6. WrestleMania 16 (2000) vs. Triple H vs. Big Show vs. Mick Foley
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xqcYRBXO9UY This WrestleMania always bothered me because I think they made a big mistake by not having a traditional one on one match with Triple H defending against The Rock. Big Show only lasted for about five minutes (why even include him) and Foley was in there for about 20 minutes despite the fact that he lost a retirement match to Triple H one month later. The Rock's work against Triple H was always good and they did go for about 17 minutes with just the two of them in the ring. There were points in the match where the guys in the ring got to rest for several minutes because Shane and Vince McMahon were going at it so much. Of course that was all just an even plan because Vince, who was in the corner of The Rock, ended up turning on Rock by hitting him with a chair. Another chairshot by Vince ended it after 37 minutes. It was a rare occasion where a heel won the last match at a WrestleMania. I thought Rock and Hunter did a tremendous job of telling the story of the match the right way, but the overbooking hurt the match. I can remember thinking that Rock was going to win because he was the babyface and WrestleMania usually ended with the babyface winning in the end. They ended the PPV with Rock making the comeback to send the fans home happy, but looking back it's still weird that they would have the heel win like that. A month later, Rock ended up winning the WWE Title from Triple H in the Backlash main event thanks to Steve Austin coming back to counter all the cheating from Triple H and the McMahon family. If that match happened at WrestleMania it would have been much better, but that Backlash show did a huge number so maybe they knew what they were doing too.
