WWE Raw: 10 Things You May Have Missed (July 4)
Why didn't Lana come out with Rusev?
On this week's Monday Night Raw, WWE confirmed a few more matches for the upcoming Battleground pay-per-view. Both Becky Lynch vs. Natalya and John Cena teaming with Enzo Amore and Big Cass to take on The Club were announced. They join the much-hyped main event Triple Threat and Kevin Owens vs. Sami Zayn on the card so far.
Stephanie and Shane McMahon were completely absent from the program, which must be a first over the past few months. There wasn't even one segment involving a full-time authority figure (although Vickie Guerrero did try to muscle in on the SmackDown COO situation), and that was refreshing.
AJ Styles and The Club confronted John Cena, leading to a little statement in AJ's promo that some may have missed. The segment was very conscious of the 'internet wrestling community' and their thoughts over the years about Cena.
Elsewhere, there were other little nuances, fan signs and easter eggs that people watching may have glossed over. From odd interaction between heels and babyfaces, to baffling disqualifications, there was a lot to take in.
Let's look at 10 things easily overlooked on Raw...
10. Cesaro & Rusev Sitting Calmly Together During The Party
Monday Night Raw opened with a celebration of July 4, WWE style. Of course, this meant that things inevitably digressed from a feel-good party into a food fight, but things were peaceful to begin with. The Miz even referenced the fact that every party segment in the company ends with catering covering the whole roster.
As the camera panned round to show everyone socialising and having fun, some of the combinations looked a little odd. Chris Jericho looked like he was having a rare old time all by himself, whereas The Ascension and The Usos seemed to be getting along rather nicely with The Dudley Boyz.
The strangest table had to be the one on the left, where Cesaro and Apollo Crews had some arm wrestling action going on. Meanwhile, Rusev sat with Lana on his knee, seemingly enjoying the occasion.
What's strange about that is that Rusev and Cesaro have been at loggerheads recently, Rusev even capitalised on the Swiss Superman's fatigue to beat him in a match on SmackDown. Why were they happy to sit so close to one another here?
