The Royal Rumble has been a strange pay-per-view over the past few years. Still a popular event due to the titular 30-man attraction, the Rumble has nonetheless also been described as disappointing by some on social media. Scan the comments regarding the 2014 and 2015 events for prime examples of that apathy.

Booking a genuinely satisfying babyface victory in the match has been difficult for WWE lately, and that's something their retrospective look at Edge's win in 2010 exposed on Raw. Looking to hype up the impending January tradition, WWE ran a video package showing footage of the Canadian's big win 7 years ago.

Interspersed with interview clips, the video showed a booming crowd response to Edge's triumph. Only then did it hit home that WWE haven't successfully written a 'good guy' to win the match with any real fanfare since. In 2012, Sheamus fell flat as the babyface winner. The same could be said for babyface winners John Cena, Batista and Roman Reigns in 2013, 2014 and 2015 respectively.

That Triple H's heel win in 2016 played before a more positive response than anyone since Edge really highlights the problem.
