WWE Raw: 10 Things You Might Have Missed (Oct 24)
8. The Announcers Acknowledged The Format Change
According to Michael Cole, Chris Jericho wasn't even supposed to be out first on Monday Night Raw. Cole and his fellow announcers Byron Saxton and Corey Graves had apparently been expecting a match between Karl Anderson and Enzo Amore. Cole said as much when Jericho made his way to the ring to deliver a promo.
The idea that those housed behind the commentary desk have a strict format is realistic, Cole, Saxton and Graves will often know what's coming up next on the program. Still, it was cool of Cole to acknowledge that Chris Jericho's appearance came out of nowhere for them.
This all adds together, little touches like this one add spontaneity to Monday Night Raw and keep viewers on their toes. Cole, Saxton and Graves have arguably worked together much better than the unit of Mauro Ranallo, JBL and David Otunga over on SmackDown Live. This was another small example of that in action.
Not labouring their point, the announcers rolled with what was happening in front of them.
