WWE Raw Gallery: 25 Years Of Iconic Monday Nights

7. 2011 - The Fourth Wall

The Rock CM Punk
WWE.com

Dateline: 27th June, 2011

Later christened the 'Pipe Bomb' based on CM Punk's mostly accurate comparison of the microphone in his hands versus those of his colleagues, the cross-legged cross-examination of everything flawed with a system he was desperate to conquer was a landmark moment in WWE history.

The poignant promo hasn't lost an ounce of oomph in subsequent years despite its debatable impact on Punk's bigger picture, and it's testament to the power, cadence and timing of his moving and miserable monologue.

Rooted in truths he was only too happy to be given the opportunity to tell, the 'Straight Edge Superstar' ripped into virtually every major name at WWE's top table, knowingly contravened common company guidelines and pressed every hot button he could think of before his microphone was dramatically cut out to end the show. Ultimately, it never did bring him satisfaction but it was acutely apparent from his delivery that he knew it never would.
