It wasn't all that long ago that Triple H was quoted as saying that he didn't want to call up any wrestlers from NXT until there were specific plans in place for them, in fear of them floundering on the main roster.

Around the time of that statement, Tyler Breeze and Apollo Crews got called up with no specific plans in place for them and floundered on the main roster.

Crews in particular is a guy who has all the tools inside in the ring, but just can't seem to put it together outside of it. He's someone who would definitely benefit from the tutelage of the late, great "American Dream" Dusty Rhodes and his ability to teach wrestlers how to develop characters and connect with audiences.

To use a music analogy, watching an Apollo Crews match is like listening to a song by guitarist Yngwie Malmsteen: he's an amazing player from a technical standpoint, but his music leaves you feeling hollow inside. Apollo seems like the nicest guy in the world, but "Smiley Dude" isn't going to make him - or his employers - much money.

Hopefully, this move will give him the opportunity to find his footing in a different role. Whether it's a heel turn, a new character or just a different approach, this trade gives the talented worker a chance to reinvent himself and find the success that has thus far eluded him.
