WWE Releases 2020-2021: Where Are They Now?

18. Ruby Riott

Ruby Soho
AEW

Released: 2 June 2021

Now: Ruby Riott could be forgiven for wondering what all the fuss was about over in All Elite. Her jump there in late-2021 hasn't been very fruitful quite yet, and she's become just another cog in an overcrowded women's division machine.

Still, Ruby had to try something out after being released by WWE in June 2021.

17. John Morrison

Johnny Elite
AEW

Released: 18 November 2021

Now: Look forward to a few more years of John Morrison calling himself 'Johnny *insert promotion name/promotionally-appropriate moniker here*'. That's his gimmick, and it's why he's been Johnny Elite and now Johnny Caballero in AAA since leaving WWE last year.

At the moment, Caballero is tearing up the Lucha scene. He still has the in-ring chops to make that work.

16. Lana

Lana WWE Raw
WWE.com

Released: 2 June 2021

Now: Lana has ditched the Lana name and is no longer Lana. Got that? She's CJ Perry again, but only really keeps herself in the wrestling frame by tweeting about everything going on or mentioning her husband Miro (more on him to come).

Perry keeps herself busy and likely makes more money from social posts than most folks do for a year's work. Good on her if that's true.

15. Kurt Angle

Kurt Angle WWE 2022
WWE.com

Released: 15 April 2020

Now: Ex-Olympian and all-round wrestling machine Kurt Angle was one of the more surprising names on the mass release list when he was let go in April 2020. No, he wasn't actively wrestling, but fans always hoped that WWE would make up for that crap Baron Corbin retirement match.

Kurt is someone the company will always bring back for a cheap pop every so often, and he's been busy investing in some side businesses away from wrestling; including his popular podcast with Conrad Thompson.

14. Jeff Hardy

Jeff Hardy
WWE

Released: 9 December 2021

Now: Oh boy.

Right, nobody can say with any degree of certainty that Jeff Hardy will ever wrestle again. Personal problems have reared their ugly head again for the man, and he's going through rehab right now to rid himself of crippling alcohol addiction issues. Everyone in wrestling is pulling for him.

Tony Khan deserves praise for sticking by Jeff, but also for making it clear that he wouldn't have a job in AEW if he didn't at least try to get well.
