WWE Road to Wrestlemania 29: CM Punk Destroys The Undertaker, Kane's Paul Bearer Tribute

WWE Championship: The Rock (c) vs John Cena

Not only did The Rock not appear on this week's Raw, but neither did his challenger, John Cena. After spending a year building up their match at Wrestlemania 28, creative are apparently happy to spend just three weeks building towards the rematch. It was noticeable how the WWE Title was pushed into the background last week, but this week it was entirely forgotten. Other than a standard video promo hyping their match, there was nothing. I will never be comfortable with the WWE champion being away from Raw, but it was even more of a surprise not to see John Cena at least picking up a win in a match to keep him looking strong, or delivering a short promo in the ring, especially as he was backstage and would appear in a dark match after Raw. If this is to be the main event of Wrestlemania as is expected, clearly WWE don't think they need to build up the match too much due to the extensive recent history between the two men. It is a shame though that it contrasts so sharply with the brilliant promos CM Punk managed to build with The Rock only recently. With the latter there seemed a genuine animosity and that engages people. Between The Rock and Cena at present they are falling back too heavily on Cena seeking redemption. There is of course still time, but WWE will need to act soon to provide a bit more depth to the match between Cena and Rock. And that, of course, means getting The Rock on TV. Prediction: As quiet as they could be this week, but the odds are surely still stacked in favour of Cena picking up the win.
