WWE Road To Wrestlemania 29: Shawn Michaels Returns, Final Match Predictions

US Championship, Divas Championship and Final Thoughts

Antonio Cesaro So at present neither the United States Champion, Antonio Cesaro, or the Divas Champion Kaitlyn, is on the Wrestlemania card. Despite there being plenty of hints last week that WWE were booking a match between Kaitlyn and AJ, there was no interaction at all between the two this week, and no sign of Kaitlyn on TV at all. Whether they will still throw something together for a quick five minute match remains to be seen. As for Cesaro, I think I have said it all already in previous columns. Why one of the most promising young superstars in the industry and a current title holder is without a match for Wrestlemania is beyond me, especially considering some of the other superstars who do (trying to resist another Fandango rant...). The fact was further ridiculed by the high quality of the match between Cesaro and Chris Jericho on Raw this week. That would have been a perfectly logical feud worthy of the Wrestlemania card, but oh well. Cesaro might get thrown on to the card at the last minute against anyone from Rey Mysterio to Christian, but at the moment, things don't look so good for the Swiss Superman. Another booking yet to be unveiled for Wrestlemania 29 is the announcing table. In my opinion, the best one they could put together would see Michael Cole joined by JBL and Jim Ross. I am not a big fan of Cole, but like it or not he is the lead announcer, and will be there. JBL has been a godsend, and is the best thing about the commentator's booth these days (just ahead of William Regal on NXT, but that isn't going to happen). Jim Ross belongs at Wrestlemania, and could easily be brought in for the show, as he was last year. Leave Jerry Lawler at home, please. I am delighted he has recovered from his heart attack, but it is time for him to step aside, because his colour commentary is woeful, and even worse, it has started to actually detract from whatever he is commentating on, rather than add to it. So there it is - the final steps on the Road to Wrestlemania have been taken, and by Monday morning it will all be over. The build-up has been poor, but come Sunday night that will all be forgotten, because despite it all, this is Wrestlemania, and that is something every wrestling fan is going to get excited about despite themselves. The show desperately needs something big though. If all we see is Cena beating The Rock, Triple H beating Brock, The Undertaker beating CM Punk, Del Rio beating Swagger and other entirely predictable results, there will be a lot of anger from fans and many will walk away after Wrestlemania, along with the part timers who are soon set to disappear. But if instead we see CM Punk end The Undertaker's streak, Brock end Triple H's career, or even John Cena turn heel, then fans will be reinvigorated, engaged and excited about the product. This is also a chance to make stars of some of the younger superstars. Dolph Ziggler could be rocketed into the main event, The Shield could make a huge statement, and Ryback could cement himself as the next big thing. I for one will go into Wrestlemania in the hope that one or more of these moments could happen on Sunday night to make sure we are all talking about Wrestlemania 29 for years to come.
