WWE: Was The Rock's 2011-2013 Return Electrifying Or A Short Circuit?

Conclusions

The Rock The fact of the matter is that in some ways the hype around the Rock's return was always going to cause disappointment for somebody. If he was brilliant in the ring and flawless, the IWC would no doubt complain that he was taking TV time away from up and comers. If he actually worked more during the Monday Night Raws, he might have got pretty boring, pretty fast- particularly earlier this year when he and Cena were re-hashing old ideas again. The WWE should have been more careful about how they used the Rock- particularly with the feud with CM Punk. This really hurt the Rock's credibility as everybody knew that the Rock was going to win it, but if the feud was not up to scratch then Rock would have decreed an unworthy champion. Perhaps a way to get around this would have been for the Rock to actually lose to Punk at the Rumble and create a bit of doubt in the Rock's mind. Then, he could come back at Elimination Chamber and win the match there. We wrestling fans often claim to be nostalgic for the Attitude Era, but maybe we've moved on more than we'd like to think. Perhaps the Rock's return suffered because both the WWE and the IWC didn't realise how much the times had changed.
