Was It Too Late?

John Cena is the top guy of the WWE, nobody can question that. But if one was to be truly realistic, his days as the top guy are very much numbered. Even giving him the World Heavyweight Championship may be a sign that the WWE is beginning to look beyond Cena as the guy to build their top title around. This could only be a good thing for the WWE, as they build to a roster with stronger depth, a guy like Cena fighting for the WHC could allow guys like Damien Sandow, Bray Wyatt and others a high profile match to see if they can mix it in the main event scene- much like the Undertaker and Chris Jericho did in 2006-2008. But if this is the case, then the idea of passing the torch becomes somewhat redundant. As for Punk, well the idea of mixing with the Rock may have been helpful had he won...but he didn't. Like much of the latter half of Punk's reign, he didn't come across as the Best in the World with the feud against the Rock, but a cowardly heel. So what about this return could have been handled better in hindsight?
