2. Mr McMahon

Royal Rumble 1999: He only bloody won didn't he? In a match that contained the top star in the company and two future World Champions, WWE elected to gift Mr McMahon the win in the Royal Rumble match. 56 minutes he was officially in the match, although almost all of that was spent running around backstage or on commentary.

Where Are They Now: Vince McMahon is still the Chairman and CEO of WWE. He is 73. *slowly turns to camera*

1. Stone Cold Steve Austin

Royal Rumble 1999: 56 minutes, 8 eliminations, the top star in the company and definitely heading towards a WrestleMania showdown with The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin was an absolute dead-cert to win the Rumble, right up until he wasn't. Despite surviving a backstage assault, stealing an ambulance, and having a $100,000 bounty on his head, Austin was eventually tipped over the top by his boss. He'd still have his Mania match, but at the time there had been few bigger shocks.

Where Are They Now: Occasionally on TV, occasionally in movies, occasionally making his own beer, occasionally working on his own ranch and occasionally popping back up on WWE to stunner someone and walk off. Sadly though, injury renders him unable to ever return to the ring.
