WWE Royal Rumble 2013: 5 Things We Learnt

5. Rock and Cena Will Be Fighting For The WWE Championship At Wrestlemania, But Will They Have Company?

The most controversial moment of the night was encapsulated in the Main Event, as the Rock was baying in the appreciation of the crowd as he threw his elbow pad into the third row. Just as he was lining up for the People's Elbow, the light's went out, and when they turned back on the Rock was laid out on the announcer's table. Suspense was a little stilted for the television audience who had to contend with Michael Cole screaming "It's The Shield!" constantly down the microphone. However, it was a shocking moment, and it lead to a pin-fall victory for CM Punk. Cue widespread outrage, but it was pretty clear that the night was not yet over. After an appearance from Mr McMahon, the match was restarted and whilst CM Punk dominated the last few minutes, he couldn't stand a final flurry from the Rock, and his historic 434-day title reign was curtailed by the Great One. The victory means that the rematch between The Rock and John Cena will happen at WrestleMania 29, with the WWE Championship adding a new dimension to their enticing rivalry. But, will it just be one-on-one? The championship match at the Royal Rumble was steeped in controversy, and it is unlikely that CM Punk will take this defeat lying down, considering he scored a pin-fall over The Rock and could so easily be the WWE Champion. Both McMahon and The Rock will be likely to feel the wrath of the outgoing champion and old walrus himself Paul Heyman. Let's see what courses this Road to WrestleMania could take. In my mind, the Elimination Chamber match will see The Rock win the 6-man contest, which will include CM Punk but not John Cena, and following another unclear finish, the main event of WrestleMania will be changed to a triple threat match between Rock, Punk and Cena. I can also see CM Punk being placed in another match with one of two intimidating foes - Vince McMahon or the Undertaker. While the McMahon/Punk match can be easily built up from this point, the match with The Undertaker would be the only real way that Punk can be adequately placed on the card for WrestleMania after the stellar year that he has had. So, that was a look back at the great event that was the Royal Rumble 2013, and the way in which I think the outcomes of the matches will effect the bumps on the Road to WrestleMania. What did you think of the event? Did you enjoy it? What would you like to see at WrestleMania 29? Leave a comment below and make your voices heard.
