1. The Big Return
Every year there is the thrilling moment when that unexpected music hits. That music could be anyone, and that's always the thrill. Jericho in 2013. Diesel in 2011. Cena in 2008. Mr. Perfect in 2002. The second that familiar music hits the excitement is palpable.
What Must Happen: Sheamus. Sheamus has been on the sideline since the end of July and the Celtic Warrior is just the sort of Superstar to make a huge impact at the Rumble. He's got one win under his belt already in 2012, so this is an event that would be appropriate for his comeback match. Once again he's probably not going to win the match now, the WWE Championship scene is already crowded with Cena, Orton, Batista and Lesnar; all seemingly in pole position for the main event of 'Mania. However, that doesn't mean the return of Sheamus will not be an event. His happy go lucky gimmick was starting to lose it's lustre by the time he left, and a lot of fans wouldn't mind seeing Sheamus going on a run as the bad-ass heel that gave him his break in the company. Don't be surprised to see Sheamus return as a footsoldier of the Authority, entering into a program with one of the top faces. A long term feud with CM Punk wouldn't be out of the question, with Sheamus as the avatar of Triple H. Punk and Sheamus haven't had an extended program together, so a run going into Wrestlemania might suit both parties.
What Could Happen: John Morrison. John Morrison has been gone from the WWE since 2011. Apart from a few indies and some acting it's all been quiet on the John Morrison front in a while. Obviously there is always speculation about a return, and the Rumble could be a perfect spot for Morrison to leap back into action. His brand of high flying athleticism would be a fit in any Rumble. We know he's capable of bringing out some really unique spots. I think most WWE fans would welcome Morrison back, he was always capable of bringing something unique to the ring. The short term deals given to performers like Van Dam might be something that would really interest Morrison and keep the roster fresh. A feud with the likes of Wade Barrett or Dean Ambrose could bring some new life into the mid-card as we start the new year.
