WWE Royal Rumble 2016: 10 Things We Learned

7. Kalisto Is The New WWE United States Champion

Lo and behold, Kalisto was booked to defeat Alberto Del Rio for the second time in just a few weeks. Previously, the high-flying masked man had offed his Mexican peer on Monday Night Raw, winning the WWE United States Title in the process. Then, just days later on Smackdown, Del Rio won the championship back. It really seemed that it would stay round the League Of Nations member's waist following the Royal Rumble, but perhaps management just wanted to shake things up on the show. The real task comes in establishing Kalisto as a credible champion, instead the fluke he was presented as before. That work begins on Raw. The possibility exists that WWE will hotshot the belt back to Del Rio on that program, which would feel like a real waste. There needs to be some purpose to title changes, and officials should be listening to the favourable reaction Kalisto's win garnered from the live crowd at the Rumble.
