WWE Royal Rumble 2017: 10 Things To Expect

10. A Huge Card

WrestleMania 32 Crowd

Throughout the company’s history, WWE rarely goes to a dome for a non-WrestleMania event. So right off the bat, Royal Rumble 2017 is a big deal. To make the show even more important, they're going to want to get their Mania 33 hype off to the right start that night.

In order to make the Rumble a success, and to fill in as many seats as they possibly can, the most important thing they can do is just give fans a big wrestling card to get excited about. Seems obvious enough.

You can imagine that for starters, they’ll bring Brock Lesnar in for one of his limited appearances. Along with John Cena, he’s the biggest draw in the company, and it would be his first match in Texas since WrestleMania 32. While there’s no clear opponent set up for him yet, his bouts are usually the most exciting on the events he competes on. So no matter who it is, him appearing will get people talking. Or, just announce he’s entering the Rumble itself once more and go from there.

We may also get something like Cena vs. A.J. Styles in their first one-on-one match since SummerSlam, Charlotte vs. Bayley in their first big pay-per-view showdown and maybe Daniel Bryan entering a managerial role to have someone fight The Miz in his place. Whatever WWE does, they need to make it feel like a huge, must see event, and give us a few matches we’ve never seen before if they want to sell 70,000 tickets.

And beyond Brock, the company may try to surprise us with a few big names...

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
