WWE Royal Rumble 2017: Every Match Ranked From Worst To Best

Forget the Rumble.

WrestleMania may be WWE's annual flagship show, but the most exciting match of the year is always the Royal Rumble, and 2017 seemed set to be a classic with so many potential shocks and such a huge talent pool to draw from.

Sadly neither the headlining match nor the show on the whole was anything approaching that, and save for one fantastic title match, the event ranged from mediocre (largely contained to the pre-show, thankfully) to solidly good at best.

The WrestleMania picture still seems massively unclear, which should at least make Elimination Chamber and Fastlane feel somewhat important moving forward. With nothing yet set in stone, hopefully WWE can rustle up some big marquee matches that might actually deliver, rather than repeat last year's relentlessly disappointing show.

Here's how WWE Royal Rumble 2017 stacked up match-wise, ranked from worst to best...

8. Sasha Banks Vs. Nia Jax

Result: Jax kills Banks with a Samoan Drop (5:10).

Rating: This wasn't at all interesting, and it was pretty sad to see Sasha on the pre-show, but at least it was in the service of giving Nia Jax a high-profile victory...as high-profile as pre-show wins can be, anyway.

Still, Sasha's heart clearly wasn't in it, and it's hard to blame her as this was essentially just a very uninspired squash match. Nia looked good, which is the important thing, but other than that it did little to distinguish itself from Nia's other Raw squashes aside from the caliber of opponent she battled.

More boring than flat-out bad, to be honest. 4/10
