WWE Royal Rumble 2018: 11 Things That Must Happen

9. Stephanie McMahon Must Not Win

WWE has a big problem in Stephanie McMahon. The Billionaire Princess has co-opted the Women’s Revolution ever since it was brought to the main roster, and her desperation to stay relevant saw her announce the inaugural female Rumble. This produced one of the most galling clips of recent times - Stephanie, surrounded by the women, all taking part in the YES! chant. Eyes can only roll so far.

From that moment on, fans were worried that Stephanie was going to enter the women’s Royal Rumble and take home the crown. Those fears eased over time, but Steph’s announcement that she is going to do commentary for the match has roused them from dormancy. Is she going to enter the match at number 30 and win the whole thing?

I have no real problem with Stephanie entering the match, but her winning it should be the absolute last option. What message does that give to the ambitious women of WWE? The company already made a hash of the first women’s Money in the Bank match by having James Ellsworth claim the briefcase; will it mess up the Rumble by having Stephanie win it?

Surely not?

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
