3. John Cena

John Cena is no stranger to success at the Royal Rumble. Although he's usually in title match situations at the PPV, his rate of success in the Rumble match itself is pretty darn good. In 2008, Big Match John shocked the world by coming back incredibly early from injury to win the match at #30. In 2013, Cena once again punched a ticket to WrestleMania by winning the Rumble, but this one was met with less enthusiasm from fans, as it telegraphed a Rock-Cena rematch that nobody asked for.

We're coming on six years since Cena's last won a Rumble, and the company have clearly moved on from him as the top guy. With Hollywood now his primary calling, Cena shows up fairly infrequently, and in the process, he's become less and less of a priority as far as big-time programs go.

If Cena were to win the Rumble, there's a natural story of the former top guy coming back to reclaim his spot one last time. It's the exact story New Japan is telling with Hiroshi Tanahashi. While a match against Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship has more dollar signs on it (at least to Vince), most fans would tell you they'd want to see Cena revisit his rivalry with AJ Styles. A match between those two at WrestleMania? That's hard to pass up.
